OBUDU BYE-ELECTION; PDP NATIONAL WOMEN LEADER CONGRATULATES ABBEY UKPUKPEN

 

The National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hajia Mariya Waziri has congratulated the winner of the just concluded bye- elections in Obudu State Constituency of Cross River State.

In her congratulatory message on behalf of the PDP women which was made available to http://solomonislandblog.com.ng, the women leader said the victory is an assurance that the women of Nigeria need to motivate themselves to run for elective positions in the upcoming general elections.

“I want to thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ayade Benedict, who created an enabling environment for women to run for political offices.

“And also use this medium to appeal to all state governors to motivate, inspire and encourage women to seek political offices in whatever capacity.

“This victory proves that the Affirmative Action can be achieved in Nigeria. So, i call on all women to come out in mass to work together and support each other to achieve this goal to rescue Nigeria.”

The bye-election which took place on the 11th of August, 2018 was a straight contest between Mrs Abbey Stephen Ukpukpen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Adah Ishamali of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The INEC returning Officer, Dr Tony Enyang declared Mrs Ukpukpen winner with a total of 12,712 votes to beat her closest rival of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr Ishamali who had 4,345 votes.
