The Forum of Yala Engineers & Allied Professionals is the umbrella body for all sons and daughters of Yala who are professionals in engineering and related fields. It is a non-governmental organization that seeks to represent the interest of all engineering practitioners in Yala local government area.

The activities globally towards increasing the number of people in engineering and related fields through the years have been on the increase across the globe. In Nigeria also, efforts are being made to improve the participation of practioners in the field of engineering at the different levels. However, in Yala there has been no definite programme for engineers to come together to chart a course for their effective practice and involvement in engineering leadership while also being involved in the Sustainable Development Goals programme.

It is in view of the above that the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Odeycyn Contractors, Cosmas Ekawu, a practising Civil Engineer believes there is a need for a forum of Yala Engineers in order to focus on the areas of growth, interest and challenges facing engineers.

In a brief interview with, Engr. Ekawu said it was in his quiet time while going over all the beautiful gifts God has given him including the gift of the engineering profession that the thought to bring together all Yala Engineers and Allied Professionals came to his mind.

“I did not keep the idea to myself but immediately made a call to Engr. Joseph Ukpata, my very distinguished colleague in the profession. After sharing my thoughts with him he encouraged me to set it on motion. I discussed this with a few other professionals and the name “YALA ENGINEERS AND ALLIED PROFESSIONALS” was agreed”, he further said.

The objective of the forum amongst others includes; to create medium for exchange of ideas and innovations, broaden the knowledge scope of her members and provide enabling environment to learn from those with more expertise in the practice, create opportunity for growth of all members in all areas of construction works and to monitor and advise our leaders on constituency projects that have direct impact on our population.

Others includes: To institutionalize construction best practice at all levels in Yala local government, Cross River State and Nigeria in general, to affiliate with engineering bodies in Nigeria and help young construction professionals from Yala to gain national and international certification with little or no stress, and to organise capacity building seminars/workshops from time to time for her members and create awareness to the general public.

Membership is open to all construction industry professionals from Yala in the field of Engineering, Survey, Building, Architecture, Marine, Aeronautics, Geology, metallurgy etc.

The maiden meeting of the forum will hold by December, 2018 in Yala where discussions will be focused on building capacity amongst members for innovation, develop favourable policies for the practice of Engineering, opportunities for all to interface on issues & challenges of the profession, and impacting communities through the SDG’s etc etc.
