Hon Cynthia Nkasi, member representing Yala 2 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly has refuted claims trending on the social media that the ongoing construction of culvert intervention at Ezekwe axis of the North Ukelle in Yala LGA is her project.
Her rebuttal in a WhatsApp Group, “SAVE UKELLE” was sequel to a series of claims and counter claims regarding who actually is the originator and financier of the project.
Mr Ulakom Joseph Ijoko had earlier reported on his personal Facebook timeline that the culvert intervention on the road is courtesy of Hon Cynthia Nkasi. Following the report by Mr Ijoko, enquiries were been made to unravel the financier of the project. A seasoned businessman and contractor Mr Henry Onwe immediately got across to Dr Ochim Julius Okputu for confirmation.
“Gentlemen and ladies, I have just spoken with Dr Julius Okputu to get clarification over that project. He informed me that he is the originator and sole financier of that project. Please this is for the records let’s stop misinforming the public”, Mr Onwe said.
In her rebuttal, Hon Nkasi said, ‘Good evening good people, why are we mixing up issues. Hon Joseph Ulakom Ijoko has told us the facilitator of the project. The most important thing is that it’s gonna be beneficial to all of us. I am not a part of it and I appreciate the facilitators. God bless you Dr Ochim Julius Okputu. We encourage you to do more”.
The absence of the culvert there has been a major impediment and challenge to the free flow of traffic on that road. When completed, road users especially farmers and businessmen shall heave a sigh of relief, as this shall give them more access to North Ukelle.
The originator, facilitator and sole financier of the project, Dr Ochim Julius Okputu is a former Chairman, Cross River State Civil Service Commission, Hon Commissioner for Environment under former Governor Liyel Imoke and one time Senatorial candidate, CR-North under the Labour Party in the 2015 general elections.
