The Bursary Department of University of Calabar is the custodian of the University’s financial records and manage its resources. Its primary purpose is to manage the financial resources of the University through the efficient application of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
The Bursar Mrs Beatrice Igwe who holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from the then Polytechnic, Calabar is a Chartered Accountant amongst other degrees and professional certificates to her credit. Mrs Igwe is hardworking, diligent and committed to her duties.
Since her appointment in 2017, the bursar has lived up to the main responsibilities of her office which includes management of the university budget, procurement and payment of supplies and set up of financial procedures. She has also performed creditably well by undertaking general and financial administrative tasks such as managing employment contracts, ensuring compliance with the law and contacting local authorities amongst others.
Her tremendous performance and exemplary style in office which is worthy of emulation as seen in her general acceptability by the university community is unprecedented in the historical annals of the institution.
Humble, trusted, caring and highly prudent, Mrs Igwe has turned around the fortunes of the University of Calabar since she was appointed.
In 2014, she was appointed Deputy Bursar and College Accountant in the College of Medical Sciences and later posted to head the payroll section of the bursary department, a position she held until her elevation as the first female bursar of the university in 2017.
Mrs Igwe is a virtuous woman, charismatic lady, a team player, a transparent financial manager, a role model, disciplined and honest, a modest wife and a loving mother of wonderful children.
