No fewer than 1000 members of the Young Progressives Party, YPP Yala Chapter have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Okpoma, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The defectors who were led by one of the chieftains and Financier of the YPP in the local government area, Mr Gabu Bruce said their decision to leave YPP for PDP was based on wide consultations in and because of the peaceful PDP environment.
Speaking at the defection rally at O’oh ward, Okpoma, Bruce decried the present state of the YPP in the state, adding that the situation has become unbearable for the party, which hitherto has affected it’s inability to register itself properly as a political party with membership across the state.
He said: “my decision to decamp from the YPP in the state to a peaceful political party that wants a better Cross River State nay Nigeria, PDP, has to do with many reasons. Also, my decision to dump the YPP was done with deep consultations among my supporters, political followers and family”.
“I appreciate my political team, and I’m using this medium to pledge our total support to the leadership of the PDP in the State. I will continue to support PDP’s transformation drive in the state and also pledge my loyalty to the party. I am motivated to defect to the PDP by the modus operandi of the party”.
Receiving Gabu Bruce and the defectors, the Yala PDP Chapter Chairman, Mr Elijah Okache, commended him for deeming it fit to join the PDP in the state.
Okache urged Bruce and his supporters to be up and doing in order to ensure the growth of the party for the betterment of the state and the country at large.
Bruce was the candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP for Yala 1 State Constituency Seat in the 2019 general elections.
